In a collaboration between our lab and Shuying Sun’s group, co-first authors Gosia Latallo and Shaopeng Wang and several others published an exciting paper in Nature Communications recently. In this paper, the authors found that introns of the highly repetitive C9ORF domain, implicated in ALS, are exported to the cytoplasm in a circular form, which are then translated to produce toxic dipeptide repeats.
